The Stomp Grounds

The so-called "Stomp Grounds" were the worship center of the village. The name comes from the "stomp dance" which is a name that the white folk gave to these dances because in performing them a stomp-like step is used. Click here to see an actual performance!

In this photo you can see and even feel the serene nature of the place. By centering their village on the worship grounds they were centering their very lives on prayer.
