The Stomp Grounds |
| The so-called "Stomp Grounds" were the
worship center of the village. The name comes from the "stomp dance" which is a
name that the white folk gave to these dances because in performing them a stomp-like step
is used. Click here to see an actual performance! |
||
| The seven tribes sat under the seven arbors that
surrounded the worship center. In the middle a fire burned. These dances were prayers for
help and of thanksgiving and could easily last all night. |
||
| In this photo you can see and even feel the serene
nature of the place. By centering their village on the worship grounds they were centering
their very lives on prayer. |
